Rise and Shine

With Obama’s announcement of an additional 50 billion dollar initiative to help with the USA’s infrastructure, I recalled how important it is to set aside days, like Labor Day, to remember the value of hard work, whether it is “white collar” or “blue collar.” Everyone needs to feel appreciated as they labor in their respective jobs. Cary Cherniss has written a book entitled Beyond Burnout: Helping Teachers, Nurses, Therapists, and Lawyers Recover from Stress and Disillusionment. He concluded that satisfaction in one’s work comes from meaning, recognition, autonomy and remuneration. He said the work must be “meaningful if members of any profession are to be satisfied and committed.” How do people define “meaningful? They define it as activity done for a cause, for loved ones, or for a higher being. May we all have work that is “meaningful” and ultimately brings glory to God!

ROOF Figures were mistakenly transposed when a total was given last Sunday night. The first contribution was $6876.00 and last Sunday was $2547.00, giving a total of $ 9, 423.00. The elders commend you for your generosity.

LCU Associates want 2 of your favorite pie recipes to go in a new Treasured Recipes cookbook they are putting together. Recipes should be turned in to the office or to Maxine Fultz by September 12 so they can all be sent in at once. There are forms on the table in the foyer. ALSO, it’s time to bake pies for the Associates booth at the Fair. We will need pies/cakes/brownies by Sept. 29 so they can be taken to the fairgrounds on Thursday, Sept. 30. Sign-up sheet is on the south bulletinboard in the foyer. Please, no more than 2 doz. brownies, which should be wrapped individually.

Upcoming Events

October 2nd - High Plains Bible Teachers Workshop Whether you teach a Bible Class or not, this day long event will provide something for everyone. We will have many different classes to choose from, taught by those well experi- enced with the subject they will present. Registration begins at 8:00am and the Workshop will run from 9:00am til 4:00pm with lunch provided. Invitations are going out to congrega- tions within a 150 mile radius. We are planning and praying for a good attendance and we want you be with us. We will have 12 different speakers, some of whom will travel quite a distance to be with us.
